Grant Description
The Eastern Kentucky Runway Recompete Plan, led by Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR), aims to connect prime-age residents to resources and training for good jobs in a region of Eastern Kentucky heavily impacted by the decline of coal mining.

Sectors of focus include healthcare, renewable energy, and remote jobs.

This project will provide funding to operate a facility to train individuals for healthcare positions (LPNs, MAs, CNAs).

PHASE 1 OF THE COMPETITION IDENTIFIED FINALISTS THAT MADE A CLEAR CASE FOR THE NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES OF THEIR CHOSEN GEOGRAPHY AND SUCCESSFULLY ARTICULATED A PLAN TO ADDRESS THOSE NEEDS. PHASE 2 OF THE COMPETITION WILL MAKE IMPLEMENTATION AWARDS BASED ON THE LIKELIHOOD OF AN APPLICANT TO RAISE PRIME-AGE EMPLOYMENT AND WAGES, AND PROMOTE LONG-TERM ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
