Grant Description
This EDA investment will partner with The Land Institute to construct a new greenhouse and headhouse to support the development of the perennial grain industry, agricultural resilience and economic growth in North Central Kansas.
The Land Institute is addressing the regional need for resilient agricultural practices in light of recent natural disasters by advancing perennial crop systems that support physical resilience by protecting local landscapes while fostering new business opportunities.
The project will strengthen regional farming by preserving soil health, supporting farmer livelihoods, and ensuring food security amid increasing extreme weather events.
The greenhouse will also help recruit new farmers and expand production of perennial grains.
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the North Central Regional Planning Commission.
EDA funds the North Central Regional Planning Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.
