Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This EDA investment will leverage public and private sector resources to meet critical infrastructure needs by establishing an improved commercial freight rail corridor in Columbia, Missouri.
The project supports the expansion of commercial freight opportunities for the city and surrounding region.
The expansion and improvement of the rail corridor will enhance resiliency of the local railroad by increasing connectivity and capacity of additional freight following impacts of a municipal coal-plant closure that caused job losses and reduced freight traffic.
This project will support the regional economy by affording the opportunity to handle heavier, more cost-efficient freight loads required in the global economy for transport of goods domestically and exported to many countries around the world.
These improvements will have significant long-term economic impact by creating more than 25 jobs and supporting more than $23 million in private investment.
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission.
EDA funds Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
