Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
This EDA investment will result in the construction of a building construction of a new manufacturing facility for the Rosebud Economic Development Corporation on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota to produce wall panels for residential home construction.
The approximately 15,200-square-foot building will contain space for manufacturing, offices, and classrooms for an integrated workforce development program.
This project is addressing the local and regional need for affordable, high-quality homes and more jobs in the Sicangu Oyate (Rosebud Sioux Tribe).
The housing plant will create good-paying, entry-level jobs and apprenticeships that will employ tribal citizens and provide them with the means to prepare their families for future natural disasters or other economic disturbances.
The Tribe was significantly impacted by natural disasters, and the lack of housing on the reservation exacerbated the human and economic impact of recent storms.
The Tribe estimates 10 jobs and $2 million in private investment will be created by the project, which will also diversify and broaden the local industrial base.
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
EDA funds the Rosebud Sioux Tribe to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
