Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Located in a region with the 9th largest African American population in the nation, the Hampton Roads Workforce Council will serve as the lead entity and backbone organization building regional talent pipelines across counties in Virginia and North Carolina, with an emphasis on in-demand blue economy, clean energy, and related cybersecurity jobs.
The project has garnered support from large employers, such as Newport News Shipbuilding (the sole designer, builder, and refueler of United States Navy aircraft carriers) and Dominion Energy. It also includes community-based organizations, such as the Urban League, which will establish training pathways in coordination with HBCUs to increase career opportunities for workers in maritime engineering and robotics.
