Empowering sustainable community revival through innovative long duration energy storage and resource reclamation (ESTER)

This project will showcase the transformative potential of powering a contaminated mining site's cleanup operations using a long duration energy storage (LDES) which supplies electricity generated from renewable sources.

The energy storage and resource reclamation (ESTER) will enable waste remediation without causing collateral environmental harm, while providing economic benefit through a commitment to domestic sourcing across all facets of this endeavor and creating local job demand for skilled labor.

Funding Goals
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS FUNDING OPPORTUNITY IS TO FUND DEMONSTRATIONS ENERGY STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES THAT OPERATE AT A MEANINGFUL SCALE IN THE FIELD AND CONSIST OF STRONG PARTNERS THAT WILL ADVANCE INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES TO WIDER COMMERCIALIZATION OPPORTUNITIES AND SERVE IMPACTFUL USE CASES FOR END USERS. PERFORMANCE DATA WILL BE COLLECTED FROM THESE DEMONSTRATIONS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE RAPID OPERATIONAL VALIDATION INITIATIVE (ROVI) AND AID IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOOLS THAT CAN PREDICT PERFORMANCE AND LIFETIME OF STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES AT AN ACCELERATED PACE AND COMMERCIALLY CONFIDENT LEVEL.
