Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) – Carpe Diem: Catalyzing the adoption and rollout of power electronics to distribution infrastructure to enhance system performance.
Carpe Diem project is to deploy distribution level power flow controllers to a large utility at scale, and to incorporate this technology into their planning and operational practices.
The medium voltage power flow control technology under consideration is the Phase-EQ, a commercially available distribution automation device that balances the flow of power between the phases of a distribution primary.
The foundational benefit, and the measuring stick for success will be increased load serving capacity: system reliability, cost efficacy, electric vehicle and solar hosting capabilities of the grid all benefit markedly from increased load serving capacity.
