Grant Description
Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL): Minnesota Power High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Termination Expansion Capability (HTEC) Project.
The overall goal of this project is to work with a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) supplier to design and build two voltage source converter (VSC) HVDC terminal stations capable of delivering 1500 megawatts (MW), ensuring that they are sized and configured for future local and regional grid expansion.
HVDC terminal stations are designed, and equipment is manufactured by a limited number of suppliers globally.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT (FOA-DE-GD0002740) TITLED GRID RESILIENCY AND INNOVATION PARTNERSHIPS (GRIP) SEEKS TO TRANSFORM/ENHANCE THE RESILIENCE OF REGIONAL, INTERREGIONAL, AND NATIONAL ELECTRIC GRIDS IN CONSIDERATION OF FUTURE SHIFTS TO RENEWABLE GENERATION AND LOAD MANAGEMENT. IMPROVING THE ELECTRIC GRID’S ABILITY TO AVOID, MITIGATE AND RECOVER FROM MAJOR DISRUPTIONS AND PLAN FOR MORE EFFECTIVE REMEDIATION OF FUTURE DISRUPTIONS ACROSS ALL HAZARDS. KEY GOALS INCLUDE ENHANCING COORDINATION AND ALIGNMENT WITH STATE, REGIONAL, AND NATIONAL ENERGY PLANNING SO AS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THREATS, MITIGATION APPROACHES, AND SYSTEM NEEDS; AND TO HELP WITH THE PRIORITIZATION OF FUNDING. ALSO, CATALYZING AND LEVERAGING PRIVATE SECTOR CAPITAL FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEPLOYMENT AND UPGRADES IN ADDITION TO ADVANCING COMMUNITY BENEFITS.
