Overview
Grant Description
Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) – North-Central Methane Center (NCMC)
The purpose of this project is to develop consistent, accurate, granular, and transparent multiscale methane emission measurements focused on the region’s producing basins that will inform state and federal emission inventories for the North-Central region, including a focused effort on gathering and transmission pipelines, distribution damage, and industrial meters;
to collect, validate, and disseminate point source to regional-scale methane emission inventories that are scalable, time-resolved, and region-specific, using both top-down and bottom-up approaches for the specified basins;
to provide actionable data to operators and regulators of region-specific failure modes of concern;
to develop multi-scale leak detection and quantification and routine monitoring recommendations suitable for a range of stakeholders through rigorous comparisons and validations of different technologies and methods;
to develop modeling tools that are responsive to evolving regulatory needs;
and to develop workforce participants with project partners and education and training programs for industry and government stakeholders.
