Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
The project objective is to develop fully functional wireline conveyance and cement/casing evaluation system meeting the DOE FOA-0003296 requirements.

The expected outcome is a working prototype tool using identified technologies that is ready for field trials.

The readiness for field trials is determined by the successful completion of verification and validation activities for the system.

The prototype conveyance and cement/casing evaluation tools will be compatible with existing SLB wireline and coil tubing conveyance systems and surface systems.
Funding Goals
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY IS A RENEWABLE AND DIVERSE SOLUTION FOR THE UNITED STATES; PROVIDING FIRM AND FLEXIBLE, LOW- TO NO-EMISSIONS ELECTRICITY GENERATION AND DELIVERING UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS TO AMERICA’S HEATING AND COOLING DEMANDS IN TURN, DIRECTLY SUPPORTING THE ADMINISTRATION’S GOALS OF CARBON-POLLUTION-FREE ELECTRICITY BY 2035 AND ECONOMYWIDE NET-ZERO EMISSIONS BY 2050. GEOTHERMAL RESOURCES CAN BE FOUND NATIONWIDE AND REPRESENT VAST DOMESTIC ENERGY POTENTIAL; HOWEVER, ONLY A FRACTION OF THIS POTENTIAL HAS BEEN REALIZED DUE TO TECHNICAL AND NON-TECHNICAL BARRIERS THAT CONSTRAIN INDUSTRY GROWTH. THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY’S (DOE’S) GEOTHERMAL TECHNOLOGIES OFFICE’S (GTO) 2023 ENHANCED GEOTHERMAL SHOT ANALYSIS, BUILDING ON GTO’S 2019 GEOVISION REPORT, CONCLUDES THAT WITH AGGRESSIVE TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS IN AREAS RELEVANT TO ENHANCED GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS (EGS), GEOTHERMAL ELECTRICITY GENERATION COULD PROVIDE 90 GIGAWATTS-ELECTRIC (GWE) OF FIRM, FLEXIBLE POWER TO THE U.S. GRID BY 2050.
