Overview
Grant Description
This project will support operations at the Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center (SNMREC) to enhance Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) ongoing efforts to advance the marine energy industry.
This project is organized into four objectives corresponding to the four areas of support requested by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO).
First, through coordination and collaboration with the other NMECs (National Marine Energy Centers), SNMREC will develop and implement several marine energy short courses and workshops.
Short courses will cover the major components of marine energy, as well as several special topic short courses that dive deeper into key topics of marine energy and workshops on special topics at annual U.S. conferences (Task 3).
Second, SNMREC will work with the WPTO to develop a 5-year strategic vision and operating strategy for SNMREC aligned with DOE priorities and needs.
Third, FAU and university partners will perform five research and development (R&D) projects that address demonstrated needs of the marine energy industry.
Finally, SNMREC has included a request for several infrastructure enhancements that will have a material impact on the ability to conduct high quality research for the benefit of the marine energy industry.
