Grant Description
Feasibility study and benefit cost analysis of applying full-scale COGENCY solar geothermal technology to power municipal facilities.
This project seeks to build 3 separated microgrids, interconnected to the overall electrical grid, to power and supply heat to 3 separate municipal facilities: the Town of Rangely Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Western Rio Blanco County Recreation Center.

Funding Goals
THE GOALS OF THE TOWN AND COGENCY POWER ARE TO:
1. DEVELOP STANDARD SIZING GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES BASED ON THE OUTPUT OF THE EQUIPMENT AND ANALYSIS OF THE ENERGY DEMANDS OF A FACILITY OR APPLICATION;
2. DEVELOP STANDARD INSTALLATION PROTOCOLS THAT CAN BE SCALED UP OR DOWN FOR THE DEMANDS OF ANY PROJECT;
3. INCORPORATE PUMPED HYDROELECTRIC STORAGE USING MICRO-HYDROELECTRIC GENERATION INTO THE WTP INSTALLATION TO STUDY THE COST BENEFITS OF PUMPED HYDROELECTRIC STORAGE;
4. OPERATE EACH SYSTEM FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND QUANTIFY:
A. SERVICING REQUIREMENTS, B. MONITORING REQUIREMENTS, C. FEASIBILITY AND COSTS OF RETROFITTING EXISTING FACILITIES, D. LONG TERM COST-BENEFITS, E. SHORT AND INTERMEDIATE TERM BENEFITS OF STAND-ALONE MICROGRID INSTALLATIONS, F. COST SAVINGS POSSIBLE FOR MUNICIPAL APPLICATIONS, AND G. CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION FEASIBILITY FOR MUNICIPAL APPLICATIONS.
