Funding Goals
CONSIDERING THE FUTURE DEMAND OF GAN SUBSTRATES IN POWER ELECTRONICS AND WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES, TEAM WILL FOCUS MORE ON THE AMMONOTHERMAL METHOD (INSTEAD OF CONVENTIONAL HVPE METHOD) THAT CAN PRODUCE LOW-DISLOCATION SUBSTRATES. ALSO, MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL CORPORATION (COST SHARE PROVIDER) IS LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY OF PRODUCING GAN SUBSTRATES IN THE US TO MEET THE FUTURE DEMAND IN NORTH AMERICA. AS A STEPPINGSTONE TO THE US, MCC DECIDED TO COLLABORATE WITH SIXPOINT CONDUCTING ARPA-E OPEN 2021 PROJECT. MCC WILL SUPPORT SIXPOINT TO DEVELOP 4'' MN-GAN BY THE AMMONOTHERMAL METHOD THROUGH A COMBINATION OF IN-KIND (SUPPLY OF MATERIALS) AND CASH CONTRIBUTION. GOAL IS FOR SIXPOINT TO ESTABLISH PRODUCTION CAPABILITY OF HIGH-QUALITY GAN IN THE US.
