Grant Description
Project Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to identify, catalogue, risk evaluate and prioritize, plug and abandon, and remediate orphan wells located in the state of Alaska.
Activities to be Performed:
The activities to be performed include community outreach, project management, planning, site surveys, equipment and personnel mobilization, transportation, methane monitoring, groundwater and surface water contamination monitoring, plugging wells, groundwater and surface water contamination remediation, site remediation, site clearance, equipment demobilization, and reporting.
Expected Deliverables or Outcomes:
The expected deliverables or outcomes of this project are to confirm an accurate inventory of orphan wells located in the state of Alaska, prioritize orphan wells for plugging and abandonment, methane reduction, groundwater and surface water contamination remediation, and site remediation, and remove these remediated orphan wells from the Alaska orphan wells listing.
Intended Beneficiaries:
The intended beneficiaries of this project are the state of Alaska, its residents, visitors, and native flora and fauna.
Sub-Recipient Activities:
Sub-recipients will be responsible for the plugging and abandonment and site remediation activities of the orphan wells. These activities will include project management, planning, equipment and personnel mobilization, transportation, methane monitoring, groundwater and surface water contamination monitoring, plugging wells, groundwater and surface water contamination remediation, site remediation, site clearance, equipment demobilization, and reporting.
