CT-2023-023
Formula Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Application Purpose: This award will provide funding to support capital investments that will catalyze the transition to 100% zero-emission transit bus services for the Southeast Area Transit District (SEAT) in Connecticut.
Activities Performed: The activities include the design work to modernize and expand SEAT's 42-year-old bus facility; acquisition of twenty-four 1:1 electrical chargers (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment or EVSE); and the purchase and deployment of the system's first two 40-foot BEBs. In addition, SEAT will develop a workforce development plan to prepare its existing staff for the transition to BEB and is collaborating with Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) to foster new employment opportunities with the transit district.
Expected Outcomes: This project will promote environmental equity in overburdened communities in Southeastern CT. Zero emission technology will lower adverse health impacts for this vulnerable population. Improvements to SEAT operations will most benefit the urban cores where ridership is strongest. This project will provide training to current staff and create new jobs through supplier relationships.
Intended Beneficiaries: Beneficiaries include low household incomes and individuals of small urban areas.
Subrecipient Activities: None.
