Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
#FACTSNOTFEAR Communication and Outreach Initiative: Providing Health Literacy and Resources to Promote Informed Decision-Making - The City of Wichita wishes to adopt and expand the Wichita Black Alliance's Facts Not Fear Communication and Outreach Initiative to other racial and ethnic minority populations and other socially vulnerable populations.
The communication campaign aims to provide health literacy and other important resources to minority communities hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic. By providing useful information, community members are empowered to make informed decisions to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Facts Not Fear efforts heighten awareness while engaging residents, community organizations, and community leaders in crafting a culturally sensitive message. The project utilizes local vendors as well as paid media and earned media.
The campaign also incorporates non-traditional urban media outlets such as local influencers and podcasters. This project first launched in October 2020 and garnered the support of Sedgwick County Government, several elected officials, community organizations, and small business owners.
Facts Not Fear also made headlines for being innovative in its decision to narrowly focus on the most vulnerable population of people - minorities. The campaign will continue to address the high number of hospitalizations and deaths for Sedgwick County's communities of color.
