Grant Description
Award Purpose
The purpose of this award is to provide a diverse pipeline of talent for water utilities through youth career exploration combined with employment and training services for low-income and underrepresented job seekers.
Activities Performed
The following activities will be performed as part of this award:
1. Collaborate with community partners to create youth learning experiences.
2. Expose youth to careers in city municipalities and industry knowledge.
3. Identify, train, and provide support services to participants in customer service, water meter tech, water distribution labor, and repair worker positions.
4. Upskill qualifying partner employees with training services to advance their career.
5. Sponsor eligible student tuition.
6. Coordinate internship experiences with partner in water treatment plant operator and engineering drafting technician.
Deliverables
The following deliverables are expected from this award:
1. 500 youth will receive career exploration services.
2. 500 underrepresented adults will receive employment and training services.
3. 150 individuals will receive a specified service.
4. 45% of enrolled participants will graduate the program or receive specified credentialing.
5. 80% of enrolled participants will obtain employment.
Intended Beneficiary
The intended beneficiaries of this award are underemployed and unemployed job seekers from underrepresented populations, specifically women and people of color. Municipal employers will also benefit from this program.
Subrecipient Activities
Milwaukee Water Works, as a subrecipient, will be responsible for the following activities:
1. Identify participants and assist in recruitment.
2. Consider hiring qualified participants.
3. Provide supervisor and worksites for on-the-job learning opportunities and internships.
4. Participate in continuous program improvement.
