Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) will use FY20 BUILD discretionary funds in the amount of $13,009,000 (full discretionary award). RFTA is a regional transit agency for three rural counties and eight towns in central Colorado.

RFTA's request to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for Better Utilizing Investments Leveraging Development (BUILD) funding is to upgrade its deficient over-capacity satellite maintenance facility known as the Glenwood Springs Maintenance Facility (GMF) into a new centrally located Operations Maintenance and Administrative Center known as the Regional Transit Center (RTC). The project will support RFTA's current and future transportation services that connect residents to jobs, healthcare, education, and other destinations. The project will enable RFTA to expand its services to respond to rapid population growth and associated traffic and safety challenges, as well as to fulfill new demands for connections to neighboring regional and statewide transit systems.

RFTA's RTC will be completed in 10 phases. The FY20 BUILD funds will be used for the design and construction of Phase 4 and Phase 5. This grant includes one project with two activities: one for consultant support and the other for design and construction of these two phases.

The local match for this project comes from a voter-approved property tax.
