Overview
Grant Description
Application Purpose: This award aims to fund SunLine Transit Agency's FY 2023 capital project from the FY 2021 Federal Section 5339 (b) Bus Bus Facilities discretionary grant ID#D2022-BUSC-011 for procurement of four (4) hydrogen fuel electric cell buses and refurbishment of ten compressed natural gas buses project.
Activities Performed: SunLine Transit Agency intends to utilize the funds for the procurement of four (4) hydrogen electric fuel cell buses and rehabilitating ten compressed natural gas buses.
Expected Outcomes: SunLine will operate the buses on various routes throughout the Coachella Valley servicing disadvantaged communities while significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Reducing emissions from public transportation vehicles will improve residents' air quality in the Coachella Valley.
Intended Beneficiaries: This project will benefit the SunLine Transit Agency service area populace, especially the SB 535 disadvantaged communities of Indio, Coachella, and Mecca. These communities are ranked in the 90-95th percentile for air pollution burden per the CalEnviro Screen 4.0. Reducing emissions from public transportation in these communities would improve the air quality and minimize the adverse health effects of poor air quality. In addition, according to the EPA, individuals who reside in low-income communities may be more exposed to air pollution.
Subrecipient Activities: SunLine Transit Agency has no sub-recipient for this award.
