Transportation Development Credits in the amount of $1,339,200 are applied to this grant in lieu of local match. A portion of the local share is provided by Transportation Development Credits. Because Transportation Development Credits do not allocate actual money toward project expenses, a 100% federal share is reflected where the credits are applied.
Purpose of the Award
The purpose of this grant is to cover capital projects that continue to allow for clean and safe delivery of public transit services, including local commuter and dial-a-ride, to the Santa Clarita Valley community.
Activities to be Performed
The City of Santa Clarita hereby submits this application for the following capital projects:
1. Bus Replacement - Local Hydrogen - TIP # LA9918919
This grant applies $757,000 in FY 19 Section 5307 funds to purchase two (2) 40ft hydrogen-fueled buses that will have a useful life of 12 years and/or 500,000 miles. These funds are in addition to the funds included in CA-2021-193. The new vehicles will meet both the Clean Air Act standards (CAA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The vehicles being replaced will be disposed of in accordance with federal requirements.
2. Hydrogen Fueling Station Infrastructure - TIP # LA9918893
This grant applies $1,950,000 in FY 19 and 20 Section 5307 funds to install hydrogen fueling infrastructure at the Santa Clarita Transit Maintenance Facility (TMF). These funds are in addition to those included in CA-2021-193.
3. Transit Maintenance Facility Improvements - TIP # LA0G804
This grant applies $1,633,000 in FY 19 Section 5307 funds for facility improvements, equipment repairs/upgrades at the Santa Clarita Maintenance Facility. Improvements include, but are not limited to, carpet, sidewalk repair, painting, interior lighting, cooling tower repair, and solar inverter repair. No new construction is taking place, only refurbishing, repairing, and upgrading.
4. Station Improvements - TIP # LA0G1484
This grant applies $1,000,000 in FY 19-20 Section 5307 funds to the rehab/renovate/repair of the various amenities at our transit stations. Planned work includes projects such as repairing/replacing glass, slurry sealing the platforms and parking areas, kiosks, benches, as well as possible platform upgrades including, but not limited to, tactile safety tiles and other various repairs.
5. Bus Replacement - Local - TIP # LA0G1611
This grant applies $2,630,745 in FY 19-20 Section 5307 funds to bus replacement. We will be purchasing three (3) 40ft hydrogen-fueled buses that will have a useful life of 12 years and/or 500,000 miles. The new vehicles will meet both the Clean Air Act standards (CAA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The vehicles being replaced will be disposed of in accordance with federal requirements.

This grant applies $958,255 in FY 19-20 Section 5339 funds to help purchase one (1) hydrogen bus that will have a useful life of 12 years and/or 500,000 miles. The new vehicle will meet both the Clean Air Act standards (CAA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The new vehicle being replaced will be disposed of in accordance with federal requirements.
Expected Outcomes
Santa Clarita Transit operations help those who rely on public transit as their only mode of travel and are committed to quality, safety, and excellence. In addition, the service connects customers to a variety of employment centers, educational institutions, retail, residential, and tourist destinations.
Intended Beneficiaries
Local residents, businesses, schools, and employment centers benefit from Santa Clarita Transit.
