Purpose:
The purpose of this award is to provide 3 replacement BEBs and associated e-charging infrastructure, including project administration.
Activities to be performed:
Funds will cover charges associated with the acquisition of 3 BEBs, e-charging infrastructure, and associated project administration of award D2022-BUSC-012.
Expected Outcomes:
Funding will allow for the timely replacement of vehicles that have exceeded their useful life, as well as support NTSS goal of zero emissions by 2040.
Intended Beneficiaries:
This project will benefit the patrons of the Norwalk Transit System, the City of Norwalk, and the surrounding Gateway Cities NTS services.
Subrecipient Activities:

The City of Norwalk was awarded $3,530,822 in FFY21 5339(b) Buses and Bus Facilities (D2022-BUSC-012). The City of Norwalk (Norwalk Transportation System) is hereby submitting this grant application in support of the following capital projects:
1) Purchase (3) Zero Emission Battery-Electric Buses:
This grant applies $2,749,500 in FY21 Section 5339 funds for bus replacement. The City of Norwalk will purchase 3 low floor-40 ft. zero emissions battery-electric buses to replace three (3) New Flyer hybrid buses. The three (3) New Flyer hybrid (gasoline/electric) buses that are being replaced were all manufactured in 2010 by New Flyer GE 35LFR buses. Bus numbers and mileage are as follows:
- Bus #7092 - 310,590 miles
- Bus #7093 - 372,632 miles
- Bus #7094 - 337,377 miles
All replacement buses have met FTAs useful life of 12 years. The new buses will have an expected useful life of 12 years and/or 500,000 miles and will meet the Clean Air Act standards (CAA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
2) Purchase (3) Charging Stations and Associated Infrastructure Costs:
This grant applies $625,322 in FY21 Section 5339 funds to purchase 3 charging stations and corresponding infrastructure costs associated with supporting the acquisition of 3 ZEB buses.
3) Project Administration:
This grant applies $156,000 in FY21 Section 5339 funds toward the project administration of awarded project D2022-BUSC-012.
