Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
The San Francisco Bay Area Water Transportation Authority (WETA) requests $3,696,100 in Section 5337 federal funds apportioned to the San Francisco-Oakland UZA from appropriation years 2020 and 2021, as identified in MTCS concurrence letter.

The purpose of these funds will be used for ferry terminal maintenance activities, including float rehabilitation projects and necessary dredging required to ensure both safe and reliable operations at WETA ferry terminals.

The activities to be performed will include items such as installing non-skid walkways, railing inspection and refurbishment, lighting, and other upgrades. It may also include dredging activities as needed for safe access by ferries to terminals.

The expected outcomes of these projects in this grant are to preserve and provide the potential for increased service reliability, providing reliable regular transit service to the transit public utilizing the Bay Ferry system for transportation around the San Francisco Bay Area.

The intended beneficiaries of these projects are local residents and businesses who will have continued access to ferry services through well-maintained and safe terminals. This includes riders from the entire San Francisco Bay Area who can connect via not only other ferry routes but local connecting bus service.

There are no subrecipient activities for this grant. WETA is a direct recipient of FTA funds; however, funds for this grant are provided through a suballocation from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Suballocation documents are attached to this application.
