Grant Description
The total request for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021 Federal Section 5337 State of Good Repair Fixed Guideway Modernization funds is in the amount of $3,624,386 for a new communication system for the light rail vehicles. Grant activities will begin in January 2020 and conclude by December 31, 2024.
The local match of $906,097 will come from the regional sales tax. The project will be funded as 80% federal and 20% local match. The project is listed as an investment prioritization project as part of Valley Metro Rail Inc.'s Agency Transit Asset Management (TAM) plan. The certification of the TAM plan has been completed by the Board of Directors.
Purpose:
The purpose of this grant is to provide funds to purchase a new communications system for the light rail.
Activities to be performed:
The activities to be performed include, but are not limited to, purchasing a new communications system. This system will include a public address system, intercom system (including cab-to-cab and passenger-to-operator intercom), passenger information system, video surveillance, and vehicle position system.
Expected outcomes:
The expected outcome is to ensure that passengers and operators have the communication needed to ensure safety while riding the light rail.
Intended beneficiaries:
The intended beneficiaries are the passengers and operators who will be utilizing the communication system.
Subrecipient activities:
The recipient intends to subaward the funds to Valley Metro Rail Inc. (Metro).
