Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The purpose of this agreement is to support Boll Weevil (BW) eradication efforts in Northern Tamaulipas, Mexico. Eradicating the BW from the areas immediately proximate to the United States will protect the commercial cotton industry from severe damage and loss caused by the BW.
Because Tamaulipas shares a border with Lower Rio Grande Valley, cooperators must conduct eradication efforts in Mexico to prevent BW from migrating into U.S. commercial cotton. NAPPO will use the award to facilitate transactions supporting aerial applications and chemical costs directly associated with BW eradication efforts in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Eradication of BW from cotton production is the outcome of this award. Cooperators monitor for BW activity in cotton fields and determine eradication status when zero BW are collected over several contiguous seasons. Monitoring results are presented in annual reports.
Beneficiaries of the BW eradication program include the U.S. cotton industry, its stakeholders, and U.S. jobs related to cotton production and export. There are no subawards or subrecipients from this award.
