Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The purpose of this agreement is to purchase and distribute local food targeting purchases from socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers.
The Navajo Nation aims to support local Navajo agricultural producers, farm cooperatives, meat suppliers, including Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI), the Tribal Farm Agribusiness Enterprise of the Navajo Nation farming approximately 90,000 acres.
Food boxes purchased from NAPI with Local Food Purchase Assistance Plus (LFPA PLUS) funds will be distributed to 49,333 underserved Navajo households in 110 chapter communities over a 10-month period in collaboration with Navajo Nation governmental resources, such as community health representatives, local senior citizen centers and programs that serve elderly and priority clients.
NAPI food boxes will include fresh vegetables and minimally processed food products grown and processed at NAPI, such as flour, blue corn meal, white/yellow corn meal, pinto beans, and potatoes.
Quarterly performance reports will be submitted to capture the number of producers, socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, distribution sites, and underserved locations as well as funds expended for each category.
Annual reports will provide percentages of new marketing opportunities and purchases distributed beyond current food distribution networks.
This cooperative agreement will benefit the almost 50,000 underserved Navajo Nation households as well as the contact awardee Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI).
The recipient does not intend to subaward.
