Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The Monacan Indian Nation Walut Pí:se "Food is Good" project, funded by the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program grant, aims to assist and support our local farmers and vendors, provide good, healthy local foods to our tribal citizens and the community, and to provide for the underserved community.
The purpose of this agreement is to purchase and distribute local food targeting purchases from socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. Create partnerships with at least nineteen local and socially disadvantaged food distributors to purchase foods for distribution and to help build and expand economic opportunities.
The grant will provide sustainability for the next two years, increase our capacity and experience, pay existing staff to support their ongoing efforts, and build stronger relationships with local vendors. Quarterly performance reports will be submitted to capture the number of producers, socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, distribution sites, and underserved locations as well as funds expended for each category.
Annual reports will provide percentages of new marketing opportunities and purchases distributed beyond current food distribution networks. Our target clients are citizens of the Monacan Indian Nation, but our food bank serves, and will continue to serve, other socially disadvantaged populations in our service area and low and moderate-income families of our tribe and in our service area.
We will serve at least 425 families three meals per month for a total of 1300 safe, healthy, and locally-produced meals and food items per month to the underserved Monacan tribal citizens and community members. The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
