Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians will purchase domestic foods from local and regional producers, and target purchases from socially disadvantaged farmers/producers. Tribal food distribution program activities will connect tribal members and tribal communities to fresh local foods and to the farmers, ranchers, and fishers that produce them. This program will empower tribal members and tribal families to make informed food choices while supporting economic development, food sovereignty, and cultural revitalization.
The Tuolumne Me-Wuk food distribution program will provide food distribution and food sovereignty throughout the life cycle of the cooperative agreement by providing 3,500 to 4,000 boxes a month to tribal members in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Mariposa, Stanislaus, and Amador counties. Quarterly performance reports will be submitted to capture the number of producers, socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, distribution sites, and underserved locations as well as funds expended for each category. Annual reports will provide percentages of new marketing opportunities and purchases distributed beyond current food distribution networks.
The tribe intends to purchase from socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers in all surrounding areas and not to exceed 400 miles from Rancheria. We hope to work with 7-10 farmers and producers and expect to serve 1,800 members, consisting of tribal members, their families, and lineal descendants. Food distribution services will be provided twice per month to create food sovereignty and food security. The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
