Cooperative Agreement
Overview
Grant Description
The purpose of this agreement is to provide local and domestic food targeting purchases from socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers and distributing the food to underserved communities. The Connecticut Department of Agriculture will administer the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program funds through (1) a partnership with the only statewide food bank and (2) through a competitive grant program serving food pantries not affiliated with the Emergency Food Assistance Program, nonprofits, and social service organizations.
Both avenues allow for subawards to local organizations to purchase and distribute Connecticut-grown farm products. Connecticut Department of Agriculture shall foster in-state relationships and build sustainable market opportunities for Connecticut producers, with an emphasis on supporting small and socially disadvantaged producers to increase the amount of fresh, local farm product distributed to underserved populations in the state.
Connecticut Department of Agriculture also aims to increase awareness of federal and state nutrition assistance benefits which can be used to purchase Connecticut-grown farm products through the distribution of outreach materials to program recipients. Through Connecticut Department of Agriculture's work with partners and affiliated stakeholders, sharing of best practices and successes, the department hopes to foster sustainable new markets for purchasing CT grown local products, especially from socially disadvantaged producers, for underserved populations.
The recipient will subaward to local organizations to purchase and distribute Connecticut-grown farm products.
