Grant Description
Application purpose: The purpose of this award is to construct a vessel to replace the aging M/V Matanuska as a mainliner ferry operating in Southeast Alaska with connections to Washington State and British Columbia.

Activities performed: Activities to be performed are to plan for the replacement of aging ferry vessels with modern diesel-electric hybrid vessels and develop the preliminary conceptual design of new vessels.

The design and construction of this new vessel class will allow for the continuation of services using safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly roll on / roll off ferry vessel service throughout the numerous communities of Southeast Alaska.

Expected outcomes: Expected outcomes are maintaining a continuity of services and providing a safer, more efficient, and environmentally friendly public transportation system for Southeast Alaska.

Intended beneficiaries: Intended beneficiaries are the region's residents, businesses, and visitors.
