Grant Description
The Village of Kaktovik (aka Barter Island) seeks funding to conduct a polar bear tourism feasibility study. The study will consider the technical, economic, and community factors of re-implementing a polar bear tourism program in Kaktovik. This is the first step towards creating a business plan and tourism program that is culturally responsible and community-led. It aims to bring economic growth and opportunities to Kaktovik.

The Village of Kaktovik intends to work through the Tribal Tourism Grant Program (TTGP) to collaborate with McKinley Research Group (MRG). Together, they will conduct this study and determine the best path forward.
