Grant Description
Description: This agreement may fund the participation of the recipient to conduct and/or oversee a variety of remedial response activities at Superfund sites in Arizona when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the lead agency for remedial action.
This cooperative agreement provides partial funding in the amount of $3,355,305. See terms and conditions.
Activities: These activities include, but are not limited to, the review of remedial investigation and feasibility studies, proposed plans, community involvement, remedial design, remedial action, operations and maintenance and records of decision, attending site-related meetings and participating in five-year reviews. These activities are being conducted at the following hazardous waste sites in Arizona, which are listed on the National Priorities List (NPL) of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Contingency Plan: Apache Powder (SSID 09C6), Iron King Mine (SSID 09MX), Motorola 52nd Street (SSID 09BE), South Indian Bend Wash (SSID 09G6), and Tucson International Airport (SSIDs 091C, 09M1, 096Y, and 09GF).
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables for Apache Powder include comments on site wide performance and monitoring reports, site visits, completing training, oversight of operations and maintenance, and community involvement factsheets and updates. The expected outcomes are sound oversight of remedial and operation and maintenance activities at the site and as-needed community outreach.
The anticipated deliverables for Iron King include archaeological and biological studies and sampling, analysis, evaluation, and reporting of data. The expected outcomes are a better understanding of the elements needed for EPA to complete the design of the selected remedy.
The anticipated deliverables for Motorola 52nd Street include community involvement activities, sampling and data analysis, sitewide maps, media requests, field oversight, commenting on feasibility studies, proposed plans and record of decisions. Expected outcomes are further understanding of the nature and extent of contamination and supporting information for future remedy selection.
The anticipated deliverables for South Indian Bend Wash include commenting on remedial investigation and action reports, site visits, review of community involvement documents. The expected outcomes include better understanding of responsible parties and effective communication with the affected community.
For the Tucson International Airport area deliverables include documents and reports associated with conducting sampling activities. Expected outcomes are further understanding of the nature and extent of contamination and supporting information for future remedy selection.
The intended beneficiaries for all sites include site stakeholders, such as community members and local governments that will benefit from EPA and ADEQ's evaluation of data from the Superfund site investigation and remedial design activities.
