Grant Description
Description: This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to the Los Angeles Unified School District. This agreement is to replace existing school buses with zero emission (ZE) school buses.
This assistance agreement provides full federal funding in the amount of $19,750,000. Preaward costs are approved back to April 1, 2024. Activities: The activities include replacing several diesel buses with zero emission buses and installing AC Level 2 and DC fast charging infrastructure. The zero emission school buses will serve schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement. Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include the purchase of several zero emission buses and the purchase and installation of AC Level 2 and DC fast charging infrastructure. The Los Angeles Unified School District, which serves approximately 450,000 students. A number of training sessions will be conducted, including training sessions for staff, bus drivers, mechanics.
The expected outcomes include the reduction of NOx, PM and CO2 emissions, and improved ambient air quality in the communities in which the buses operate, improved workforce training programs for zero emission vehicles and changes in driver behavior, such as reducing idling operations of clean school buses and optimizing efficiency of EV operations, increased public awareness, advancement in community engagement ensuring that the voices of affected parties are heard and considered, and gain an understanding of the positive environmental impact and potential economic savings from the project.
The intended beneficiaries include the grant recipient, the Los Angeles Unified School District. Additional beneficiaries include the school children and staff at the schools that will utilize the zero emission buses and the communities surrounding the school.
