Grant Description
Description: Competitive funding awarded under EPA-I-R10-OW-CRBRP-2023-02. This agreement will be funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The proposed project will reduce toxic pollution in the headwaters of the Columbia River Basin.

Activities: The project activities will reduce toxics by eliminating or reducing pollution, improving water quality, reducing runoff, and promoting citizen engagement and knowledge through stormwater and septic leachate toxic reduction subaward programs and associated education and outreach efforts.

Subrecipient: Activities implemented through subaward programs include septic maintenance, septic system replacements and/or connectivity to sewer, Flathead County septage treatment and biosolids composting facility, and green sewer infrastructure projects.

Outcomes: Anticipated project deliverables include a toxic reduction plan for the upper Columbia River Basin. Anticipated project outcomes include long-term reductions in septic leachate pollution as a result of increased proper maintenance practices and increased citizen knowledge of toxic pollution and mitigation actions and long-term behavior change to reduce toxic pollution.

Intended project beneficiaries are the residents of the state of Montana and the regional tribal communities.
