Overview
Grant Description
With this funding, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to target PM2.5 (particulate matter) emissions through a wood-burning appliance change out program in the Logan, Utah PM2.5 nonattainment area.
The proposed project aims to convert non EPA-certified devices to gas burning appliances, replace uncertified wood stoves/inserts with EPA-certified wood burning units, and destroy/recycle uncertified wood stoves/inserts in the Logan nonattainment area.
The Utah Department of Environmental Quality proposes to partner with the hearth industry as well as local air quality community organizations, non-profit advocacy groups, and health professionals within the state.
The program will offer financial incentives to encourage residents in the nonattainment area to:
1) Change out any wood burning device to natural gas or propane fueled heating units,
2) Replace uncertified wood-burning stoves/inserts with EPA-certified stoves/inserts, or
3) Dispose of an uncertified wood stove/insert.
