Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description:
This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to Ferguson-Florissant School District. This agreement is to replace existing school buses with clean and zero emission (ZE) school buses.
Activities:
The activities include replacing 16 diesel buses with 16 EV buses utilizing funds from the EPA Clean School Bus Grant. Charging infrastructure will include 8 InCharge ICE-30KW DC fast charging stations. The new school buses will serve Ferguson-Florissant School District.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables include 16 EV buses being purchased and delivered to Ferguson-Florissant School District. Approximately 1800 students will be riding the buses to and from school. This will help reduce exposure to diesel emissions.
Ferguson has designed an all-encompassing training strategy that merges digital learning sessions with physical product introduction assistance, safety briefings, technical support, and continuous guidance. The local emergency response teams will participate in this training as well to understand correct emergency protocols tailored for electric vehicles, emphasizing safe deactivation steps.
The expected outcomes include improved ambient air quality in communities and reduction in CO2 emissions by 432 tons annually. This gives health benefits for school children and staff with decreased exposure to diesel emissions. Also, this change will benefit the community by saving $52,800 on annual cost, leading to potential reinvestment in sustainability initiatives and enhancing local economic and social conditions.
Local Ferguson-Florissant vendors will be utilized for this project, bolstering economic development while also reducing harmful emissions from CO2 by replacing fuel with electrical infrastructure. The air quality (that's extremely poor according to the EPA's EJ Screen Tool) will be improved for these communities as a result of converting to EV. For public awareness, Ferguson will promote the transition to electric buses through signage, social media and other local channels.
Ferguson is establishing workforce training programs for operating and maintaining electric buses and charging infrastructure. These trainings will translate to maximized retention of the fleet due to proper care and maintenance.
The intended beneficiaries include a grant agreement between Ferguson-Florissant School District and EPA. This is a non-construction grant type. Additional beneficiaries are children and the community of Ferguson-Florissant School District.
