Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description:
This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to Ritenour School District. This agreement is to replace existing school buses with clean and zero emission (ZE) school buses.
Activities:
The activities include replacing 24 diesel school buses with 24 electric school buses and 24-30 amp DC fast chargers. The new school buses will serve Ritenour School District.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables include replacing 24 diesel buses with 24 electric buses and installing 24 DC fast chargers. Training will also be provided for drivers and staff to safely operate and maintain the new buses and infrastructure. Once this group is trained, Ritenour School District will promote the project to the rest of the community and keep them engaged throughout the arrival and usage of the new buses. The electric buses will be on display at community events, school board meetings, and during open houses to allow community members to fully see the benefits of the buses.
The expected outcomes include a significant reduction in diesel exhaust pollution including PM2.5, NOX, CO, and CO2 which will subsequently benefit the community with improved air quality. The surrounding community and Ritenour students will also feel the health benefits resulting from reduced exposure to PM2.5 including a reduction of premature mortality, chronic bronchitis, asthma attacks, and other health problems. Through Ritenour's community engagement strategies, the community will be able to see the full benefits of the electric buses and increase the overall awareness and adoption of ZE technology.
The intended beneficiaries include Ritenour School District and their students who rely on these buses for school transportation. Surrounding communities will also benefit from the improved air quality and quieter buses.
