Description: MDA CBRAP II
This action awards federal funds in the amount of $1,967,672. Federal funds in the amount of $3,815,196 are contingent upon availability.
The purpose of this award is to aid the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) in implementing and expanding its regulatory, accountability, assessment, compliance, and enforcement capabilities in support of reducing nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads delivered to the Chesapeake Bay. This award assists in the implementation and verification of the Maryland Agricultural Sector's Phase 3 Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP).
Activities:
The activities to be performed under this award will focus on meeting nutrient management goals through technical assistance and implementation of best management practices (BMPs). Specifically, the University of Maryland Extension, funded through an interagency agreement with MDA, will assist farmers and operators with the development of nutrient management plans and conduct programs which further their understanding of nutrient management. Additionally, MDA will direct funding to the Maryland Agricultural Cost Share (MACS) program to provide support to Maryland farmers for the installation of BMPs to alleviate critical or potential water pollution conditions associated with farming activity.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
This work supports achievement of the goals and outcomes of the 2014 Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement and will help to achieve and maintain the water quality necessary to improve the aquatic system health of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. Beneficiaries of this project include Maryland farmers and farm operators, residents of the Chesapeake Bay, and the environment.
