Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description: This agreement provides funding under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to JP Bus and Truck Repair Ltd to replace Class 7 diesel school buses with Class 7 electric school buses and install DC fast chargers.
The project will result in the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Activities: The activities include replacing diesel emission school buses with zero emission school buses and accompanying direct current (DC) fast chargers and related infrastructure.
The new school buses will serve school children in NYC.
Subrecipient: No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include electric school buses (ESBs) and accompanying DC fast chargers that will serve children in New York City (NYC) school districts.
Trainings will be provided on electric bus maintenance and related charging infrastructure for bus operators, mechanics, and additional support staff on operations, safety, service, and basic support.
There will also be community engagement activities with various local organizations.
The expected outcomes include displacing diesel fuel used annually, with related cost reductions, and a reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), volatile organic carbon (VOCs), and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
These emission reductions will relate to improvements in overall health of the students, residents, and community members.
Through the delivery of trainings related to ESBs there will be an improved workforce program that promotes elevated driver behavior and overall efficiency.
As a result of their community engagement activities, the local community will be aware of this project, its goals, and the overall benefits of having ESBs.
The neighborhoods that will be impacted by this project rank in the 95th percentile of diesel PM exposure and 75th percentile for low income in the country, and the successful implementation of ESBs will promote positive benefits throughout the area.
The intended beneficiaries include JP Bus and Truck Repair Ltd, NYC public schools, and residents in NYC.
