Description:
This grant agreement provides $4,000,000.00 of federal funding to the City of Wilmington, Delaware, to implement its sewer-stormwater separation project. The goal of the project is to reduce flooding during storm events and improve livability for community members by removing stormwater runoff from the combined sewer system in the project area as directed in the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
Activities:
The activities to be performed will include installing new, separate stormwater piping and associated structures in the B and C Street areas. The new storm sewer system will direct runoff to the South Wilmington Wetland Park for attenuation, storage, and water quality treatment prior to release to the river.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables will improve the environment and water quality by eliminating wastewater overflows to the Christina River and treating stormwater runoff prior to release. It will also reduce flooding and reduce health risks for citizens in the western half of Southbridge. The beneficiaries are the local residents and property owners of the City of Wilmington.
