Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
Description: The agreement provides funding to Energy Innovation Center Institute, Inc.
Specifically, the recipient will create workforce development activities that benefit disadvantaged communities and help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants.
Activities: The activities include establishing leadership development, occupational training, mentoring, workforce development and/or cross training programs.
Subrecipient: Review and audit of multiple drinking water and wastewater treatment plants in Pennsylvania and Ohio to determine a baseline of emissions by category, what emission and carbon intensity efforts may be under way, and applicability of the newest areas of emission reduction technologies and process improvements.
Emissions audit from all of the reviewed plants will be analyzed and integrated into a standardized emission reduction training curriculum.
Develop an innovative 120 hour new worker curriculum that will position the Energy Innovation Center Institute to train new minority workers to fill skilled worker roles in the selected treatment plants that serve the disadvantaged communities.
Pennsylvania Rural intends to work with their other state and national affiliates with a similar 'train-the-trainer' model within their organization to further facilitate rapid national expansion.
Additionally, Aqua is expected to roll the program out to all of its treatment facilities (in 8 states) through the 'train-the-trainer' program and our partner National Safety Council will have a foundation role in extending the training beyond the reach of these groups.
Outcomes: The anticipated deliverables include development of strategies to reduce and offset energy and fuel consumption at water utilities.
The expected outcomes include facilitating an understanding of the water-energy nexus and developing enhanced sustainable regional collaborations that support long-term water utility workforce needs and long-term greenhouse gas/other air pollution emission reduction goals.
The intended beneficiaries include organizations that train the water utility sector workforce in new tools and technologies that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants.
