CFDA Narrative Excerpt: The purpose of USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) is to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance - including food, water, shelter, emergency healthcare, and other critical aid - to the world's most vulnerable and hardest-to-reach population affected by natural, man-made, and complex disaster.
BHA is the lead federal coordinator for international disaster assistance, harnessing the expertise and unique capacities of other U.S. government, non-U.S. entities, and public international organizations to effectively respond to natural disasters and complex crises by providing emergency food assistance around the world.

Recipient: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
This award allocates FY24 resources to UNICEF for a program entitled "Emergency Response to the Nutrition Crisis in Chad." The objective of this project is to provide quality treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) to children under five years old while also reinforcing the nutritional surveillance system for emergency preparedness and response through improvements made to human resources, materials, and equipment in health facilities.
Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) will target 21,600 children suffering from SAM in Chad from both host and displaced (refugee) populations.
This 12-month award will provide children with access to quality nutrition care services, treating those affected by SAM and strengthening an effective nutritional surveillance system.

This award will be complemented by a 98.008 USAID Food for Peace Emergency Program contribution to provide additional RUTF to treat 24,480 children.
