Project Grant
Overview
Grant Description
To protect the population from further shocks and from sliding further into poverty and food insecurity, a top priority must be to support the most vulnerable and build upon their fragile support mechanisms.
Thus, the first component of the project will provide unconditional food assistance to severely food insecure households.
The second component in the project, building resilience through cash for assets creation, is an evolution from unconditional to conditional support, envisaged as medium-term shock-responsive social assistance that will maintain the food security situation of vulnerable households by building livelihoods.
Third, evidence generation is crucial to ensure communities, the government, and assistance mechanisms are prepared not to just respond to but to mitigate future shocks. Thus, the final component of the project is data collection for food security and market monitoring.
The approach will allow for shifting from basic and fundamental social support to preparedness and shock-response and vice versa, thus maintaining the humanitarian-development nexus.
The total estimated cost for the intervention is U$ 10,000,000 for five (5) years.
