Cooperative Agreement

Overview

Grant Description
Purpose: Dapple Security, Inc proposes to develop a biometrics-based FIDO2 authenticator for passwordless login access, with the final aim of creating a commercial sovereign, secure identity solution in the area of identity and access management.
In this project, they will perform R&D to evaluate the security of this novel approach focusing on recovery experiences for employees and small business administrators.

Activities to be performed: During Phase I, research and development will be performed to evaluate the security of a passwordless login approach using a biometrics-based FIDO2 authenticator.

Expected outcomes: Technology development under this Phase I is expected to improve the poor identity sovereignty and recovery experiences for employees and small business administrators of existing technologies.

Intended beneficiaries: The awardee's intended beneficiaries are organizations in regulated sectors, namely financial, healthcare, insurance, real estate, legal and government, with <1000 employees, who are particularly vulnerable and underserved by cybersecurity vendors.

Subrecipient activities: No consultants, contracts and subawards will be used in Phase I.

Title
Evaluating Biometrics for a Cryptographic Application
Abstract
The demand for digital identity and access management solutions in cybersecurity is gaining substantial traction due to the overwhelming majority of data breaches resulting from attacks on digital identity, and the rising regulatory requirements on companies to mitigate these challenges. To combat this, a particular set of solutions for passwordless authentication are those based on the FIDO2 standards. Yet most of the existing FIDO2 solutions are built for consumer use cases first and suffer from poor identity sovereignty and recovery experiences for employees and small business administrators. Dapple is developing a biometrics-based FIDO2 authenticator for passwordless login access, with the final aim of creating a commercial sovereign, secure identity solution in the area of Identity and Access Management using an innovative combination of biometrics and cryptography. In this project, we will perform R&D to evaluate the security of this novel approach.
