Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: Initially competitively reviewed in 2017, this cooperative agreement is funded for the purpose of providing manufacturing extension services to Iowa small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMM).
Activities to be performed: CIRAS combines internal expertise with outstanding partners, deep relationships with key stakeholders, and strong affiliate service providers. The Iowa MEP team has deployed and refined a proven approach to understanding the diverse needs of Iowa manufacturers, delivering services to meet those needs, and ensuring that programs meet the needs of our stakeholders. The Iowa MEP strategy closely aligns with the NIST MEP strategy of enhancing competitiveness, championing manufacturing, supporting partnerships, and developing capabilities across the national system.
Expected outcomes: CIRAS has long been a leader in manufacturing training and implementation and will continue to support the needs of businesses in this area. The expected outcome for this award is targeted SMM offerings in:
- Leadership: Strategy, management systems; supply chain; innovation.
- Growth: Market strategy; exporting; B2B networking.
- Productivity: Lean/Iowa Lean Consortium; operational excellence; quality.
- Technology: Industry 4.0; automation; engineering; testing.
- Workforce: Workforce strategies; student engagement.
Intended beneficiaries: Iowa small and medium-sized manufacturers and the MEP national network.
Subrecipient activities: North Iowa Area Community College's (NIACC's) John Pappa Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) was selected to be a partner to provide technical support to small and start-up manufacturers in north-central Iowa. NIACC provides technical assistance in business planning, rapid prototyping, and high-potential client identification. The NIST MEP funds are used to assess the business needs and identify the appropriate resources to address those needs.
