Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: The purpose of this award is to provide manufacturing extension services to primarily small and medium-sized manufacturers in the state of Maine.
Activities to be performed: Maine MEP strategically partners with other organizations (i.e., Department of Economic and Community Development, Southern Maine Community College, and University of Maine Advanced MTG. Center) throughout the state to deliver value-add services in four core areas: (1) enterprise management, (2) performance-based training, (3) supply chain strengthening, and (4) innovation services.
Expected outcomes: Maine MEP's goals are to ensure profitable manufacturing growth through delivering client-centric services aligned with SME goals to achieve economic impact, become a leading resource expert and champion of growth and innovation for SMEs in Maine, and expand and deepen partnerships within the manufacturing ecosystem that benefit SMEs.
Intended beneficiaries: Small and medium-sized manufacturers in Maine.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient plans to subaward funds for general business assistance services to area manufacturers through a variety of programs, including but not limited to the Small Business Development Center, business financing assistance, export assistance, and targeted industry assistance. The recipient will also use its best efforts to support the Maine MEP mission to establish, promote, maintain, and expand a statewide MEP identity.
Background: Effective April 2017, via a cooperative agreement with the Department of Commerce, Maine MEP was granted funding to operate a MEP center in the state of Maine. However, as required by the MEP statute, Sec. 25 (g) "Evaluations," a secretarial review must be conducted in the fifth year of operation of a center. This evaluation determines if a center may continue to receive financial assistance. Maine MEP is in year 5 of the cooperative agreement. Therefore, a secretarial review was conducted. The secretarial evaluation of the Maine MEP was conducted on December 20, 2021, by the MEP Director, the Deputy Director, the Division Chief for Regional and State Partnerships, the Executive Officer, and the Group Manager for Program Evaluation and Economic Research.
