Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: Effective April 1, 2022, via this cooperative agreement, this recipient will be granted funding to operate an MEP Center in the state of Nevada. The purpose of this award is to provide manufacturing extension services to the rapidly growing small and medium manufacturers in the state of Nevada. Key initiatives include:
1) Accelerate and invigorate its convening of manufacturers for a common voice.
2) Adopt and offer more recognized credentials for training offerings.
3) Formalize supply chain offerings for the state's growing manufacturing sector.
Activities to be performed: Through its collaborations with the University of Nevada Reno and the state, the center is focusing on establishing and sustaining a skilled workforce pipeline, organizing the manufacturing sector for a common voice, promoting access to industry-identified technology and innovation, including GOED's Knowledge Fund, connecting industry to research and development supported by GOED's Knowledge Fund, realizing growth in exports through manufacturing, identifying and addressing supply chain gaps for manufacturers, marketing for awareness and increased enrollment in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers and education, and implementing learning and earning advanced career pathways (LEAP). These activities will be supported by NSHE partners and third-party experts.
Expected outcomes: Nevada Industry of Excellence plans to strengthen their business through increasing jobs in advanced manufacturing, food manufacturing, logistics, renewable energy, and unmanned systems and advanced mobility. Additionally, they will work to ensure a highly skilled and diverse workforce by expanding the availability of STEM-focused career pathways and increasing educational programs that require internship/work experience completion.
Intended beneficiaries: Small and medium-sized manufacturers in the state of Nevada.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
