Section 405(g) Nonmotorized Safety Grant (23 C.F.R. § 1300.26; 23 U.S.C. § 405(g)) – Grant to support programs to decrease nonmotorized road user fatalities involving a motor vehicle in transit on a trafficway consistent with 23 C.F.R. § 1300.26(e).

405(g) funding is available to qualifying states where the state's annual combined nonmotorized road user fatalities exceed 15 percent of the state's total annual crash fatalities based on the most recent calendar year for which final FARS data are available, as determined by NHTSA.

These funds are apportioned using statutory apportionment formula.

These funds are provided to the state and territorial highway safety offices based on an approved triennial highway safety plan that details problem identification, public participation and engagement, performance measures, countermeasure strategies for programming funds and an approved annual grant application that details planned projects using identified countermeasure strategies for programming funds to help reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes.
