Grant Description
Congress charges the Northeast Corridor Commission with promoting mutual cooperation and planning pertaining to the rail operations, infrastructure investments, and related activities of the Northeast Corridor.
The Commission's mission statement is to bring the states, commuter agencies, AMTRAK, and US DOT together to modernize and improve the Northeast Corridor rail system through increased collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
Expected outcomes through the Commission's planning and coordination efforts include expanded and improved intercity, commuter, and freight rail services operating with greater safety and reliability, reduced travel times, increased frequencies, and enhanced intermodal connections designed to address airport and highway congestion, reduced transportation energy consumption, improved air quality, and increased economic development of the NEC region.
AMTRAK, NECC, FRA, and passengers of AMTRAK service will benefit from the collaboration and administrative support provided by NECC.
Additionally, passengers on the Northeast Corridor routes will benefit from the continued growth and success of these intercity passenger rail services.

THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM FUNDED THROUGH THIS AGREEMENT IS FOR AMTRAK AND NORTHEAST CORRIDOR COMMISSION TO PROMOTE MUTUAL COOPERATION AND PLANNING PERTAINING TO THE RAIL OPERATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS AND RELATED ACTIVITIES OF THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR.
