Grant Description
The project will conduct project development activities, including environmental review and preliminary engineering (PE) to consolidate three Consolidated Rail Corporation at-grade tracks onto two bridges in Detroit, Michigan.
The project will consolidate all but one of the three at-grade tracks onto two bridges, one over Lonyo Street and one over Central Street.
The project will eliminate three at-grade crossings, add necessary improvements to other crossings, and remove three aging bridges.
The project will support connectivity, improve safety, improve emergency access, improve mobility and access, and improve freight transportation through the area and to the Southeast Michigan region.

THE RCE PROGRAM PROVIDES A FEDERAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITY TO FUND HIGHWAY RAIL OR PATHWAY RAIL GRADE CROSSING IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THAT FOCUS ON IMPROVING THE SAFETY AND MOBILITY OF PEOPLE AND GOODS WHICH WILL IMPROVE AMERICAN RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE TO ENHANCE RAIL SAFETY IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF COMMUNITIES ELIMINATE HIGHWAY RAIL AND PATHWAY RAIL GRADE CROSSINGS THAT ARE FREQUENTLY BLOCKED BY TRAINS AND REDUCE THE IMPACTS THAT FREIGHT MOVEMENT AND RAILROAD OPERATIONS MAY HAVE ON UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
