Project Grant

Overview

Grant Description
Amtrak is working in cooperation with Amtrak's labor organizations and Amtrak's engineering department to implement a 12-month engineering track foremen inspectors workforce development apprenticeship training program that will provide upward mobility for current employees by training for leadership.

25 employees in the pilot class and 35 additional employees in the additional class to become engineering track foremen, leading track maintenance crews.

It is imperative that Amtrak retain its current employees and cultivate a highly skilled and knowledgeable track workforce.

This will ensure Amtrak equipment and facilities are maintained to the highest standard which in turn will provide a safer working environment for its employees and a reliable safe fleet for its passengers.

Implementation of the project will support the development of a more robust training requirement for new employees entering this career field, improve employee morale, offer ascension opportunities for Amtrak employees, and contribute to local economies.

Furthermore, and most important, the safety of employees and passengers will be enhanced.
